Chaplain Lloyd Evans & Moonyean Klopfenstein, Parents’ Support Group at Wilmington Medical Center
February 25, 2011
Retired Christiana Care nurse Moonyeen Klopfenstein joins elite company on March 22 when she becomes one of only 117 women from the state of Delaware inducted into the Hall of Fame of Delaware Women.
Inductees are known as trailblazers in their field and have made a lasting impact on community service. Klopfenstein, known by colleagues and friends as Kloppy, blazed a trail as a childbirth educator and nursing administrator at Christiana Care for 44 years.
Kloppy initiated or expanded many programs and support groups over the years related to maternal and child health and end-of-life issues. They testify to her compassion and commitment to educating pregnant women and their families in all aspects of the perinatal experience. One such group, Loving Arms Support Group, is one of the longest continuously running programs in the country for parents grieving the loss of a child.
She has led a number of professional nursing organizations, task forces and committees. Kloppy is the recipient of several honors and awards and is highly respected in her field by both the state of Delaware and the federal government. Last fall she was among a select group of individuals invited to the White House to meet with President Obama to discuss various health care issues.
