Michael P. Walsh, 85 of Wilmington passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Christiana Hospital.
Mike was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Evelyn (Hahn) and J. Francis Walsh. He graduated from St. Ann’s Grade School, Archmere Academy and Mount St. Mary’s College. Mike served as Sheriff of New Castle County for 30 years. Although he played basketball in high school and college, Mike was well known as a competitive golfer. He was also known as a toastmaster and improv comedian for many groups and charity organizations. Mike will always be remembered for his love of friends and family. He always stopped to talk to everyone who wanted to share a thought or a laugh. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was a friend to all.
Mike will be deeply missed by his wife of 21 years, Norma (Testa) Walsh; his children and their spouses, Lynne M. Walsh of Wilmington, Lauren M. Walsh and Gabriel Cianchetto of Miami, FL and Patrick M. and Debra Walsh of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Brendan and Keira; his brother, David I. Walsh of Lewes; Norma’s son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Linda Montini of Newark and their children, Tessa and Jonathon. Mike was predeceased by his first wife, Judith.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road on Monday evening, April 3rd from 4 to 7 PM. Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Ann’s School, 2006 Shallcross Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806 or the Blood Bank of Delmarva 100 Hygeia Drive, Newark, DE 19713.
